Honors Program Summer Testing for Grades 5-8 on July 14

The vision of the Franklin Special School District (FSSD) is to provide Excellence in Teaching and Learning for All. Because the FSSD is committed to those actions that bring about a more deliberate focus toward individualized and personalized instructional experiences, the FSSD offers an Honors Program for qualifying students in grades 5-8. By the time students enter the fifth grade, some have reached a level of academic proficiency which enables them to participate in a learning environment which delivers faster-paced curriculum, more rigorous and complex instruction that emphasizes more in-depth study, analytical thinking, and creative problem solving. If you believe your child has reached a level of academic proficiency which will make him/her a good candidate for the Honors Program, you may request that he/she take the EXPLORE test, an 8th grade level test used by FSSD to identify academically advanced students. Students who meet the EXPLORE score criteria in the subtests for English, Reading, Math, and Science will become eligible to participate in FSSD’s Honors English/Language Arts, Math, and/or Science classes. Placement in Honors classes will occur as space is available. The 8th grade level EXPLORE test will be administered at Freedom Intermediate School, Freedom Middle School and Poplar Grove Middle School for the 2016-17 school year on Thursday, July 14, 2016, from 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.  (NOTE:  Students will test at their ZONED SCHOOL and will take all four subtests—English, Reading, Math, and Science—on the day of testing.)
