  • Special Education Preschool for 3-, 4- and 5-year-olds, including typically developing peer models
  • Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten for 4- and 5-year-olds

Special Education Preschool
serves the needs of 3- to 5-year-old children who have developmental delays at no cost. We also enroll students without delays to serve as positive peer role models.

We are currently accepting applications for typically developing preschoolers for 2021-2022 to participate in the Preschool Peer Role Model Program. Eligible students must be 4 years old by August 15, be ineligible for kindergarten, and reside in or have a parent employed in the FSSD. Tuition is $3000, with a sliding fee option for qualifying families. The inclusion model provides a wide range of learning opportunities and the least restrictive environment that is both stimulating and challenging for the children in these classes. The school day is 6 hours Monday – Friday beginning in August.

Please contact the Special Populations Office at (615) 794-6624 if you have questions. The 2021-2022 FSSD Peer Role Model Application can be located at

Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK) program provides a high quality educational program through an active learning approach.

To qualify for the voluntary pre-kindergarten program, a child must be 4 years old on or before August 15 and live in the Franklin Special School District. The Tennessee Department of Education requires that school districts first serve students whose family meets specific income qualifications. Space permitting, students may be served who have disabilities, are identified as English Learners, are in state custody, or are identified as educationally at-risk for failure due to circumstances of abuse or neglect.
